Fishery geeks storm Oyster Bay

B3 at ang pinakagwapong Palaboy
One thing that prolly made connection between me and B3 is that we had common grounds on formal fishery education. He finished his bachelors degree in Fisheries while I went to a fishery school when I was in high school.

I remember we had a handful talk about jigger (used to catch pusit), pante (a local fishnet) and our share of opinions on the strengths and loopholes of RA 8550. B1, who was just a friend to B3 that time would roll her eyes hearing our enthusiasm on brackish water fish discussion.

We are the fishery geeks.

So when I went to Cebu last week, B3 brought me to Oyster Bay Seafood Restaurant, not because of good food but because of live sharks! Not one but three, swimming on the side of the restaurant "front yard". Imagine my big grin seeing the sharks! Here's a picture from a blog site promoting Cebu City.

The restaurant looks a bit high end but when you look at their menu, it's surprisingly okay. Kinilaw na tanigue is less than P300. B1, B3 and I didn't enjoy the food much. It was okay, bordering to mediocre palate experience. The clam soup tastes like instant chicken noodle soup which is a major turn off to B1. In my case, the uncooked clams were not that fresh since I noticed that clams were a bit frozen. (Cold clam is okay. Icy clam means it's not that fresh.)  There is little hint of sweetness to it so all the clam meat still goes to my stomach even though its icy.
The "fresh" uncooked clam

The ambiance though is very remarkable. Big shells are used as ceiling lamps. B1 noted, "Sana hindi ilegal yang ginawa nilang yan." B3 and I are not sure if it's illegal to use those big shells for interior design. Meron bang may alam? Anyone from BFAR?

My favorite is the wall lamp they have.  Made of sea urchin shells, I love how they delicately placed them together to make accent to the yellow light lamp. Gusto din siya nina B1 at B3.

For those who have been to Cebu before, but are tired to go to the usual tourist spots, this can be part of the list to explore, not for food (sorry) but for the unique experience. Contact Oyster Bay here.

Oha, bigla akong napa-rebyu ng restawrant. Natatawa ako na ang isang middle class na manggagawa ay biglang napasulat ng ganire. Parang may sapi lang.
