One of the things I enjoy as an administrator of a government institution I'm serving is that every year, I have the privilege to justify to higher bodies why my Department is renewing several non-tenured employee. I enjoy writing narratives of their accomplishments throughout the year. I like the idea of "defending" how these employees are assets of our institution.
On the opposite end of my job is to give feedback to the non-performing employees prior to final evaluation. Three years ago, this is a very hard task for me. Now that I'm on my third year, I enjoy working with the non-performing so they can improve their work. Worst comes to worst, I sit down with them and help them sort out that maybe, just maybe, working in our institution might not be the best job for them.
