Done checking all the papers and exams

Finally! After two weeks of reading case studies, autobiographical papers and checking final exams, I'm done computing their grades! Thank you CBTL Tomas Morato for the not-so-cold AC room. Thank you for reserving Palaboy's Corner for me.

---------------------

At the start of the semester, I always tell my students that by default, lahat sila ay Uno (highest possible grade in the university I'm teaching). It's up to them if they can maintain that grade through the courseworks.

As a faculty, grading student's work is one of my least favorite tasks. I don't like boxing student's output through matrices of imposed values. However, because I work in a traditional educational system, giving numerical value to outputs is inescapable.

There are several students who will get a grade of Singko. Aside from the numerical evidence, this is my basis. Students should fail when the student has been given detailed and regular feedback on areas of poor performance and has been made aware of the areas of concern and how to improve performance, but do not respond or act on feedback regarding their performance. A student fails to provide evidence of meeting the required standard (when the opportunity is available). The student acts in an unprofessional or unsafe way despite feedback and support.

i read all their essays and give feedbacks. nakikita naman sa grades nila kung may improvement o wala.

  2. students make their own grades. but these numbers do not accurately reflect a person's character. nagkakasingko ang isang estudyante dahil sa iba't-ibang dahilan. I have my own story about that matter. defensive. haha

    1. alam mo tunay yan ser olivr. I have my own share of singko story in chem 16. general chem pa lang yan ha.

di ako naniniwala na repleksyon ng kabuuan ng estudyante ang grado nila. pero it tells something about their management prolly of time, and even their values. :)

    :)

    1. It's always a collaborative effort of the student, the teacher and the environment.

      1. I think after giving honest and constructive feedback and numerous reminders to submit requirements, the teacher has done his part.
      2. Teaching style wise, the teacher needs to consider different learning styles of the students.
      3. However, we have to take note that university learning is adult education. There is high value for taking responsibility.

Salamat ser nutty sa reply. I've been reflecting din kung saan ako nagkulang bilang instraktor. O kung nagkulang ba ako. Hahaha :)

  6. tama naman yan! well ewan ko di ko pa naranasan ang hirap ng college life ee

  7. Good thing I am not task to grade my former students by giving them singko. LoLs! because I taught in a grade school level before.

It's heart breaking though to punish a student with the dreaded grade -singko - but as you've mentioned in your last italic statements- you have to do that because of these statements. A lesson they must learn - that being a student is equivalent to work hard and not just barging into malls and have a good time or worst playing inside an arcade or timezone.

Haha. Nagkakamali kayo. Mga babae lahat.
      3. Kapag walang pinasang requierements, wala akong mabibigay na grado.

    2. LoLs because of the words arcade and timezone, but there are plenty of girls who are visiting this play zone these days.

  9. hambait nyo naman. me prof ako way back in college na base on your family name or surnames ang grade. no matter sabaw or malaman yung essay mo. hay! at sad to say na 2.5 lang ako sa kanya kahit maganda or hindi yung gawa ko. worst kung sabaw yung nakuha ko tapos 2.5 pa rin, it just prove na di nya talaga binasa sinulat ko.

  11. kung ako lang din, ok ang magbibigay ng grade na uno when u think they deserve it and u work hard for it. lol yon ang naging mentality ko for this second course i got kasi mas masarap pala if u work hard then bibigyan ka ng grade na u think un ang deserve for u. hahaha pero may isang professor akong tulad mo, pero yon nga work for it also. lol
